Austin focuses his practice on election and public law, commercial litigation, and pro bono work with an emphasis on criminal justice issues. He is an experienced litigator and a trusted advisor to clients on a wide range of matters.
In his election and public law practice, Austin represents government officials and agencies in high-profile cases in trial and appellate courts. His experience includes litigation involving civil rights claims, public records disputes, and constitutional issues. Austin also advises candidates, political action committees, nonprofit organizations, and ballot measure sponsors and opponents on legal issues involving elections, campaign finance, and ballot access.
In his commercial litigation practice, Austin advises corporate and individual clients in business and employment disputes involving, among other things, business torts, restrictive covenants, and contractual issues. He has litigated matters in federal and state courts, representing clients in various industries, including real estate, financial services, and health care.
In his pro bono practice, Austin mainly focuses on criminal justice work. He represents incarcerated individuals asserting constitutional and other claims. He also prepares amicus curiae briefs on significant criminal justice issues in the Arizona Court of Appeals and the Arizona Supreme Court.
Before joining Coppersmith Brockelman, Austin practiced law for several years at a national law firm. He also served as a law clerk to the Honorable Vice Chief Justice John Pelander of the Arizona Supreme Court. In his prior career, Austin worked in the financial services industry at Goldman Sachs.
