Former State Elections Director & General Counsel to Arizona Governor Joins Firm to Co-Lead Elections & Public Law Practice

Coppersmith Brockelman is pleased to welcome Sambo “Bo” Dul to the team — one of Arizona’s most prominent attorneys and influential legal voices in civic and government affairs. She will co-lead the nationally recognized elections and public law practice alongside Andy Gaona, with support from colleague Austin Yost.
Formerly a top legal advisor to Gov. Katie Hobbs and Arizona state elections director, Bo brings a rare blend of high-level government service, private practice expertise, and deep commitment to democracy rooted in lived experience as a Cambodian refugee.
Her leadership has previously helped secure free and fair state elections in a time when democracy faced the unprecedented challenges of a global pandemic, efforts to undermine public confidence in election processes, and increasing threats against election officials. After Hobbs was elected governor, Bo stepped up to serve as chief legal advisor on a variety of high-stakes issues.
In her new role, Bo will work with clients ranging from government agencies and advocacy organizations to campaigns, voters, and others with an interest in the democratic process, advising on matters such as election administration, policy strategy, and public law litigation.
“Bo’s been the real deal for a long time,” said Gaona. “Her decision to join us speaks volumes about the mutual trust and shared purpose we’ve built. And on top of all that, she’s an incredible human being. We are elated to call her our colleague.”
Governor Hobbs echoed this sentiment in a statement. “Bo Dul and the lawyers at Coppersmith Brockelman have been trusted advisors for many years,” she said. “Bo proved herself an extraordinarily capable and knowledgeable attorney…I am excited to see all of her contributions to the state and the legal profession going forward.”
